The resiliency of a standalone microgrid is of considerable issue because the available regulation measures and capabilities are limited.Given this background, this paper presented a new mathematical model for a detailed photovoltaic(PV)module and the application of new control techniques for efficient energy extraction. The PV module employs a single-stage conversion method to integrate it with the utility grid. For extraction the maximum power from PV and integrate it to power grid,a three-phase voltage source converter is used. For obtaining the maximum power at a particular irradiance a maximum power point tracking(MPPT)scheme is used. The fuzzy logic control and adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system are proposed for direct current(DC)link voltage control. The proposed model and control scheme are validated through a comparison with the standard power-voltage and current-voltage charts for a PV module.Simulation results demonstrate that the system stability can be maintained with the power grid and in the island mode,in contrast with the MPPT.

With the increasing severity of environmental problems, many countries have set energy transition targets to promote the realization of the Paris Agreement. There has been a global consensus on utilizing solar energy resources as alternatives to conventional sources to support this energy transition. In this regard, analyzing the “location,” “quantity,” and “quality” of global solar energy resources will not only assist an individual country to efficiently utilize these resources but also promote the realization of large-scale intercontinental resource utilization and complementation. This study established the basic database, model methods, and platform tools for global solar energy assessment,Then,a global solar energy resource assessment was conducted, which included the theoretical reserves(TRs),technical installed potential capacity(TPIC),and average development cost(ADC).A comparative analysis of the assessment results for all continents was also performed. After that, based on big data analysis and geographic information system(GIS)calculations, the distribution characteristics of the global solar power TPIC were calculated with the two core indicators, namely the capacity factor and ADC.Furthermore,a data-driven quantitative evaluation of the refined development potential of solar energy resources was performed. Finally, the reasonableness and coincidence analysis of the resource assessment results were verified using data from global and specifically Chinese photovoltaic(PV)bases.

Base station operators deploy a large number of distributed photovoltaics to solve the problems of high energy consumption and high electricity costs of 5G base stations. In this study, the idle space of the base station’s energy storage is used to stabilize the photovoltaic output, and a photovoltaic storage system microgrid of a 5G base station is constructed.Aiming at the capacity planning problem of photovoltaic storage systems,a two-layer optimal configuration method is proposed. The inner layer optimization considers the energy sharing among the base station microgrids, combines the communication characteristics of the 5G base station and the backup power demand of the energy storage battery, and determines an economic scheduling strategy for each photovoltaic storage system with the goal of minimizing the daily operation cost of the base station microgrid. The outer model aims to minimize the annual average comprehensive revenue of the 5G base station microgrid, while considering peak clipping and valley filling,to optimize the photovoltaic storage system capacity. The CPLEX solver and a genetic algorithm were used to solve the two-layer models.Considering the construction of the 5G base station in a certain area as an example, the results showed that the proposed model can not only reduce the cost of the 5G base station operators, but also reduce the peak load of the power grid and promote the local digestion of photovoltaic power.

Uncertainty must be well addressed in transmission expansion planning(TEP)problem, and it significantly affects the reliability and cost-effectiveness of power systems.Owing to the complex operating environment of power systems,it is crucial to consider different types of uncertainties during the planning stage. In this paper,a robust TEP model is proposed by considering multiple uncertainties and active load.Specifically,in this model, the uncertainties of wind power output and contingency probability are considered simultaneously. The uncertainties are described by scenario and interval, and the Benders decomposition technique is applied to solve the model. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed model are illustrated using the IEEE RTS and IEEE 118-node systems.

To maximize the maintenance willingness of the owner of transmission lines, this study presents a transmission maintenance scheduling model that considers the energy constraints of the power system and the security constraints of onsite maintenance operations.Considering the computational complexity of the mixed integer programming(MIP)problem,a machine learning(ML)approach is presented to solve the transmission maintenance scheduling model efficiently. The value of the branching score factor value is optimized by Bayesian optimization(BO)in the proposed algorithm, which plays an important role in the size of the branch-and-bound search tree in the solution process. The test case in a modified version of the IEEE 30-bus system shows that the proposed algorithm can not only reach the optimal solution but also improve the computational efficiency.

The fault current limiter(FCL)is an effective measure for improving system stability and suppressing short-circuit fault current.Because of space and economic costs, the optimum placement of FCLs is vital in industrial applications. In this study, two objectives with the same dimensional measurement unit, namely, the total capital investment cost of FCLs and circuit breaker loss related to short-circuit currents, are considered. The circuit breaker loss model is developed based on the attenuation rule of the circuit breaker service life. The circuit breaker loss is used to quantify the current-limiting effect to avoid the problem of weight selection in a multi-objective problem. The IEEE 10-generator 39-bus system in New England is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed genetic algorithm(GA)method.Comparative and sensitivity analyses are performed. The results of the optimized plan are validated through simulations, indicating the significant potential of the GA for such optimization.

With a lack of coverage in private and public power communication networks, especially for collection of information from hydropower stations in remote areas, communication coverage is a significant issue.Satellite communication provides a large coverage area suitable for a variety of services and is less affected by geographical factors;moreover, the costs are independent of the communication distance. This study investigates information acquisition technology for small hydropower stations in remote areas using high- and low-orbit satellites. The information collection needs of small hydropower stations in remote areas are analyzed, and an information acquisition system is designed using high- and low-orbit satellites. For network security protection, network anomaly detection technology based on a support vector machine algorithm is proposed. The effectiveness of information collection was evaluated and verified for small hydropower plants in remote areas. The system provides technical support for “full coverage, full collection, and full monitoring” of the measurement automation information acquisition system.

Mutual influence may be driven by different models and operating mechanisms of grounding systems in multi-inone substations.Even equipment damage and personal injury will occur in the event of a short-circuit or lightning strike. To meet the construction requirements of different multi-in-one substations, two typical application modes of grounding systems in multi-in-one substations are analyzed in this paper:plane and longitudinal layout schemes.First, the safety index and withstand voltage of secondary equipment in multi-in-one substations are introduced.Second, the plane layout scheme of grounding grids is examined.Based on a 35-kV multi-in-one substations in Shanghai,it was verified that the overall grounding grid needs to be laid to meet the safety of secondary equipment in the station. Finally, considering that it is feasible to rebuild the upper layer of a substation, the longitudinal layout scheme of the grounding grid in multi-in-one substations is also examined.Safety assessment is carried out in terms of aspects such as short-circuits and lightning strikes, and relevant optimization construction methods are analyzed. In this study,a real 35-kV substation in Shanghai was selected as an example.Simulation and field tests based on Current Distribution,Electromagnetic Fields,Grounding and Soil Structure Analysis(CDEGS)software verified that the proposed construction scheme can achieve safe operation of multi-in-one substations. This construction idea can also serve as a reference for the future construction of multi-in-one substations.
